The business started off as a
small catering operation. In order to accommodate our
larger catering requests, in December 2004, we purchased a
large Greek restaurant and kitchen in a business park in south
Richmond, BC. Since we're not Greek, we didn't intend on
keeping the Greek theme. Our goal has always been catering. We
decided to make some major changes to the restaurant in order to
better achieve our goal. We knew the cafe had wonderful
potential for our sit-down customers; floor-to-ceiling glass
windows, lots of space for additional tables, charming New York
style checkered flooring and a patio for those sunny summer
days. So...we rolled up our sleeves...donned our
oldest duds...and went to Home Depot to get supplies to make
changes to our dream project.

As you can see, it's a much larger place than most
business-park style cafes. A lot of blood, sweat and tears went into
the renovations. And it all occurred during the Christmas holidays
when we should have been home making gingerbread cookies and
drinking eggnog! But we persevered...we rounded up the troops,
including boyfriends, husbands, parents and friends in order
to make this dream come true.

Walls were torn down and kitchen
appliances were removed to clean every nook and cranny in the
kitchen. Plans were implemented to make the kitchen bigger and
better to make a catering operation successful. All
those episodes of "Trading Spaces" and
"Holmes on Homes" finally seemed to pay off in the end as
we selected a winning colour combination for the
walls.

In the end, more walls went
up, shelves and counterspace were built, the kitchen equipment was
upgraded and more appliances were added...all in an effort to
realize our dream of a catering and cafe operation. So, for
those looking for advice on making renovations to a newly-purchased
business, be sure to plan on many, many long nights and
late-night (and early-morning) trips to stores like
Ikea and Home Depot. We would like to thank all those who helped us:
Dad(s), Mom(s), Terry, Lance, Dave, Judy, Paul,
Herbert and all those friendly people at Ikea and Home
Depot!

We operate as a
lunchtime cafe for our business park customers, as well as a
catering operation for our corporate customers in Richmond,
Delta and Vancouver. We invite you to come by and visit our
little piece of the world, or simply call us for your next catered
event. |
